this and that

Tue Feb 10, 2009, 9:47 PM
I started reading 'Floor Sample' by Julia Cameron. I picked up a used copy a while back with the intention of reading it at a later period. I guess this would be the later period. I discovered 'The Artist's Way' about 4 or 5 years ago. Doesn't really matter since it's all kind of blurry by now anyway. It changed my perspective of who I am and who I want to be and all the in-betweens. So 'Floor Sample' is a memoir of her life so far and it didn't really surprise me the story line so far, but it did seem to hit home a bit. Not that I have had the same experience exactly as she but there are so many parallels. I'm at the part where she talks about how she dealt with sobriety by taking walks every single day. And how that's when she would hear the higher voices that we tend to ignore. I knew exactly what she was talking about. I spent pretty much an entire year taking those walks 2, sometimes 3 times a day. Those walks were my saving grace. I never realized that that's exactly what I've always done throughout my life, even as far back as a teen. I walked miles and miles with a couple of friends at different times never realizing then, how much it would impact my life today. This past year has been very difficult for me to go walking, not for physical reasons but for other reasons, and I finally went a couple of days ago and it made me happy. I know I will jump back on the walking wagon soon because I'm ready to listen again. Another thing I learned from her was to write daily, which I do, but not using her instructions so much now. I think I need to return to that as well. You are supposed to write 3 pages every morning when you wake up. Just write down whatever comes to your hand to write. It doesn't matter if it make sense or not, just write it. Eventually all the clutter that is in your mind is supposed to release itself and allow the good stuff to shine through. So, she mentions this in her memoir as well, although I think it's set up is a little different than in 'The Artists Way'. I'm going to go and read some more of what she has to share. Gnite.
